With the Periscope, we can effectively treat gum disease in about 90% of our patients without surgery. Highly magnified images of the surface of the tooth root are transmitted to a monitor and show us precisely where hardened tartar is present. These images guide us in the process of removing bacterial contaminations that were previously only visible with oral surgery.
Patient Progress System
Dr. Weingarden designed a computer program to automate the gathering of your oral health information and keep track of your progress. Your doctor or hygienist will check for pockets between the teeth and gums, bleeding, receding gums, plaque and areas of bone loss at branching point of a tooth root.
Information can be viewed on a monitor as it is gathered. Once all the data is collected, an analysis of your oral health is displayed, allowing you and your doctor to discuss any necessary treatment. A complete report is sent to your dentist.
3D Cone Beam Scanner
Our rotating cone beam scanner captures three-dimensional images of the jawbone, allowing us to review all angles and plan proper treatment. The system produces crisp three-dimensional images in seconds, while using far less radiation than medical CT scans.
Ultrasonic scalers use high-frequency vibrations to gently and effectively remove plaque and calculus from teeth, and bits of inflamed tissue from area between the teeth and gums.
Oral DNA Testing
We sometimes use a simple saliva DNA test to determine the specific type and quantity of bacteria in your mouth. With this technology, we can precisely diagnosis the type of bacteria that is present, and prescribe the appropriate antibiotic. The DNA saliva test can also show if you are resistant to a particular type of antibiotic.
While we don’t need to prescribe antibiotics in most cases, there are times when we use them as a precautionary measure for patients who are not local or those who with autoimmune disorders.
When a tooth has been missing for a period of time, the underlying bone essentially melts away. We use growth proteins to rebuild bone to help support surrounding teeth and allow for dental implants to be placed.
Guided Tissue Regeneration
Because different types of tissue heal at different rates, we may use guided tissue regeneration to ensure successful bone augmentation. Outer tissues heal more quickly and can sometimes fill in where bone should be. To keep this from occurring, we create physical barriers that keep outer tissues from encroaching while bone regrows.
Dr. Weingarden was on an international panel that was sequestered until they concluded the best method for bone regrowth. The statistical conclusion is that guided tissue regeneration is usually the best solution.
Intraoral cameras transmit images to a monitor, providing real-time visualization of your mouth, and allow you to see what your doctor sees. This technology is helpful when discussing treatment options and preventive measures.
Digital X-rays emit significantly less radiation than conventional film X-rays while capturing a high-quality image that is rapidly processed. Our doctors can more easily educate patients about any problems by zooming in on small areas.
Soft Tissue Diode Laser
Soft tissue lasers are used in cosmetic procedures such as gum contouring to gently remove tissue while cauterizing blood vessels, thereby reducing healing time and minimizing discomfort. This tool is also used to disinfect pockets between the gums and teeth.
