Cosmetic and Functional Crown Lengthening in Pittsburgh
How Crown Lengthening Can Change Your Smile.
Fixing Gummy Smiles and Evening Out Gumlines
Smiles are known as “gummy” when the amount of gum displayed overshadows the teeth, or the teeth look too short in comparison to the gums when smiling. Many people feel self-conscious about their gummy smile and cover their mouths or try to maintain an unnatural lip position. There’s no need to continue to do so!
Dr. Bakuri can beautifully sculpt away excessive tissue to expose more of the tooth structure and eliminate a gummy smile.
We can also reshape uneven gumlines that are adversely affecting the aesthetics of your smile. In certain situations, the laser can be used for minor sculpting.
Results can be life changing and can be seen immediately. We hand patients a mirror and they become teary-eyed at what they see!

Functional Crown Elongation
In cases where a tooth is badly worn, decayed or fractured below the gumline, we use a procedure called “crown elongation” or “crown lengthening” to adjust the gum and bone level and expose more of the healthy tooth structure prior to placing a dental crown.
This procedure allows more natural tooth structure to securely hold the new crown, and it prevents the crown from being placed below the gumline where it would damage gum tissue and bone.
Functional crown elongation is accomplished quickly and easily with our soft-tissue diode laser.
