Three white, cylindrical dental implant posts are displayed, two standing upright and one lying down, showing a hexagonal opening. Each post features a threaded section for anchoring, set against a black background.

A Metal-Free Alternative to Titanium Implants

In addition to traditional implants made of biocompatible titanium, we are proud to offer a metal-free alternative with ceramic dental implants. Ceramic implants are made of ultra-strong zirconia and are ideal for patients who are allergic to metal or who don't want metal in their bodies.

After conducting a thorough examination and consultation with you, the doctors may recommend ceramic implants depending on various factors like your preferences, your medical history, the location where the implant will be placed, or if they find your gums to be thin.

Gum tissue is slightly translucent, and when a patient with thin gum tissue gets a titanium implant, the patient can often see the grey color of the implant through the gums. As ceramic implants are white, this grey color showing through is prevented.

A Biological Approach to Dental Implants

Dr. Bakuri is actively involved in the design and creation of ceramic dental implants, with a strong passion for a biological approach to dental care. He has shared his knowledge and insights by lecturing on ceramic implants both nationally and internationally.

At our practice, we all take a comprehensive biological approach to tooth replacement, working closely with holistic dentists as needed throughout the Pittsburgh metro area to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

Benefits of Ceramic Implants

Aesthetics

One of the most noticeable yet straightforward differences between titanium and ceramic implants is their color. Being naturally white, ceramic implants offer clear aesthetic advantages, particularly for patients with thin or delicate soft tissue or those experiencing soft tissue recession. Ceramic implants are less likely to cause dark spots or discoloration in the gums compared to titanium. For patients worried about the visibility of titanium, especially in the front teeth, ceramic implants can provide a more visually appealing solution.

Gentle on Gums & Resists Plaque

Research shows ceramic implants attach well to the gums, cause little inflammation, and bond to the bone as effectively as titanium implants. They also collect fewer bacteria, which can help keep the surrounding tissue healthier.

Ceramic vs Titanium Dental Implants: Deciding the best option for you

Both ceramic and titanium implants are safe, effective, and approved by the FDA. They're both excellent options for replacing missing teeth; the right choice depends on your unique needs and preferences, which the doctors will help you with.

While titanium implants have been used and trusted for over 50 years because of their strength and durability, ceramic implants are a newer alternative that are a better option for a lot of patients because they are hypoallergenic (relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction), corrosion-resistant, and blend seamlessly with natural teeth. This makes them an excellent choice for front-tooth replacements.
